iGoogle, Google's personalized homepage,

iGoogle, Google's personalized homepage, allows users to customize the page's design with dynamic themes. The Themes API allows you to build themes about outer space, cartoons, dogs, or anything you can dream up. This is your chance to redesign the Google homepage for tens of millions of iGoogle users!

Build Dynamic Themes
iGoogle themes can modify the header and footer images, navigation bar, text colors, link colors, gadget frames, and more. Themes can also update the page's design based on time of day.

This makes it easy to create a story that unfolds throughout the day, landscapes that change as the sun rises and sets, and abstract images that become more complex. Creating a dynamic theme is as simple as specifying a time with a theme's visual attributes.

A theme can have as many different states as you like. You can build a theme to change every half an hour for a total of 48 unique states, or build a theme with as few as 1 or 2 states. It's up to you.

iGoogle Themes Tools
This section describes tools to help you develop themes.
Theme XML template
Download the themes template to help jump start your development. This is especially useful if you are new to XML.
iGoogle sandbox
With the introduction of the iGoogle sandbox, your theme can cover even more of the page. Sandbox features include a left navigation, chat, updated gadget frames, and updated buttons. Sign up for the sandbox to see how your theme will appear with the new UI features. Then, see the instructions for testing themes.
Share themes
Once your theme is live in the iGoogle directory, it will be available to iGoogle's tens of millions of users. If you want to share your favorite theme through email, visit the directory and find the theme. Click on the thumbnail image to visit the theme's about page. Click "Share this theme" and follow the prompts to email it others.
Examples of themes
Four designers have created their own iGoogle themes, highlighting various features of the API:
Yves Behar/fuseproject's Earth-light highlights the dynamic abilities of themes, as a daylight curve moves across a world map.
John Maeda's Simplicity is Complex consists of large tiles, without having a distinct center image.
Mark Frauenfelder's Adventures in Lollipopland shows how you can tile your images to fit different screen resolutions.
Troy Lee's Supermoto Mayhem uses a solid background color instead of tiling.
